Kitchen God Cave is a bonus dungeon in Shiren 1 that emphasizes monster meat. It's sometimes called Naoki's Dungeon, Bufu's Dungeon, or the food dungeon.
Gaining Access
The entrance to this dungeon is in Bamboo Village, north of the smith, down a path by the fortune teller. You must first beat the main adventure and finish the Noaki / The Cliffs Restaurant side quest to gain access to this dungeon.
Unique Features
You may not bring items or Gitans into the dungeon, which also means you can't receive items when being rescued. But you can bring allies in with you and you do keep items you have on hand if you win or escape.
You start with nothing but a Bufu Cleaver and a Big Riceball. The Bufu Cleaver often turns enemies into meat, which can be used in multiple interesting ways. This emphasis on monster meat makes this bonus dungeon play radically differently than other dungeons in the game.
Goal & Final Reward
The goal is to find Naoki. He appears randomly starting from 25F. There is probably no boss monster for this dungeon (confirm). If successful, you get a reward item of Half Warrior Meat.
Farming Opportunities
Strategies
It is possible to beat the dungeon starting at experience level 1, which was the only option in the Super Famicom version of the game. However, in the DS version, you can level up first before entering and retain your experience level, so if you're not deliberately trying to challenge yourself, it's recommended that you start at a level in the high teens. It also helps if you stretch your belly with Big Riceballs up to 200% stomach size prior to entering the dungeon, as this allows you to take your time a bit more and collect extra staves.
To beat this dungeon, you must maximize use of the Bufu Cleaver and minimize useless traveling. To survive, you must rely on the meat-drop attribute of the Bufu Cleaver to keep up a supply of meat, which give 10 food value apiece.
Every random staff you find will be a Bufu's staff, so name it. Use Bufu's staff on as many Pacorepkins as you can find. A single Pacorepkin meat, when used properly, is capable of safely clearing out an entire floor/house of monsters before Death Angels start appearing. A couple of Evil General meats are good to have as well, but most other meats should be used to maintain fullness. On the last floors, you should have enough Bufu's staff charges and spare meat to get past the Death Angels and Skull Wraiths to find Naoki, especially if you expanded your stomach before entering.
Here are some useful meat tricks:
- Fluffy Bunny Meat works as a stronger Medicinal Herb (50HP restored).
- Curse Girl (and above) Meats work as Blessing Scrolls on everything not in jars.
- Pacorepkin and any other ghost meat will let you fly through walls, which can be very useful on later floors when you just want to find Naoki or loot.
- Crossbowboy Meat lets you fire Iron Arrows. If you fill up a room with arrows by shooting them at walls, you can collect and use them once you transform back. This is an easy way to get 99 Iron Arrows. (It doesn't work with Silver Arrows, of course, as they aren't blocked by walls.)
- Dark Owl Meat works as a Scroll of Light, letting you see everything on the floor.
