There are certain items that you will encounter in your dungeons that are edible. They can have different effects on the player or partner, positive or negative. They can heal HP, heal certain or all status effects or increase stats. However, they can also cause harm for the player, such as limiting or messing up vision. These items can also raise fill the belly by a certain amount.

Berries

Berries (きのみ Berries) are a common form of healing items that can either restore your HP or a certain status problem. There can also be certain berries that also enhance certain stats, such as a small HP boost. These items can be held by both the leader and/or the partner, can be placed and thrown in a one-directional path. However, they are not prone to becoming sticky. If they do become sticky, they cannot be switched out from a Pokémon's held item or Toolbox, and they deal damage when being thrown at a nearby Pokémon. They use the option of 'eat' instead of 'use' or 'ingest'. Berries also manage to fill the Pokémon's belly by a sight amount.

Below are a list of the berries you can encounter throughout dungeons.

Food

A collection of foods that significantly fill a Pokémon's belly Respectively, they are an Apple, a Gummi, Grimy Food and a Chestnut

Food are also prominent items that are exclusive only to the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series. Most of them don't really do much, but some of them raise things like IQ or induce a random status effect. However, all of them are known to fill up a Pokémon's belly significantly more than normal items like berries or seeds. If the belly is full, it can also increase the maximum belly capacity by 5 points.

These items can be held by the leader and/or the partner, can be placed and can be thrown in a one-directional path. They use the 'eat' option rather than the 'use' or 'ingest' option. However, they are not prone to becoming sticky or being affected by a certain trap. If they do become sticky, they cannot be switched out from a Pokémon's held item or Toolbox, and they deal damage when being thrown at a nearby Pokémon.

Here are a list of the different food you can encounter throughout dungeons

Apples

Apples are one of the best foods in terms of filling up the belly, and they can range in three sizes. These food items can be thrown, placed and held. However, they can be affected by Grimy traps, turning them into Grimy Food in the process, and cannot be restored to their original self after the trap activation. Normal apples are most prone to turning into Grimy Food, whilst Big or Huge apples have a lesser chance of turning into one.

Gummis

Gummis (Japanese: グミ Gummi) also play a rather large part in filling up the Pokémon's belly, but unlike the Apple has an additional side affect, being that they can raise the player or partner's IQ. It can also fill up a Pokémon's belly by a certain amount, depending on what Pokémon like the Gummi and the what type a Pokémon is. For example, a Feraligatr would have their belly filled by 60 if it ate a Blue Gummi.

Pokémon type's effect Gummi's belly fill
Matches the Pokémon type 60
It is weak against the Gummi's type (Grass is weak to Fire) 30
It is neutral to the type (Electric is neutral to Normal) 25
It resists against the Gummi's type (Grass is resistant against Water) 20
It is ineffective (Normal is ineffective to Ghost and vise versa) 5

However, a Pokémon with a dual type can actually add up the fill of the Belly. Such as if an Altaria eats a Sky Gummi, it would total the points to 85 as the Gummi matches the Flying-Type but also is neutral against Dragon-Type.

Gummis also have an additional affect outside of dungeons too. If you go to a Friend Area and visit a friend, you have the option to give them a Gummi. Giving them the Gummi raises their IQ by whatever amount, but also gives them an additional stat raise by 1.

Gummis are also not prone to being sticky, and can be affected by Grimy traps. Although uncommon, Gummis have a chance of turning into Grimy Food.

Here are the lists of different Gummis you can find throughout the game-

Other Food

Grimy Food

Grimy Food (ベトベタフード Sticky Food) is an item that fills a Pokémon's belly by 30 points. However, unlike any of the other items they give an additional negative effect. The effect is random, and can vary from lowering stats to status effects such as poisoning or a burn. They often replace other food items if there are any in the bag if stepped on a Grimy trap, most notably any type of apple or Gummis (although Big Apples, Huge apples and Gummis have a lesser chance of becoming one) and you cannot restore them to their former selves after this. However, they have a chance to spawn in Kecleon Shops in either Joyous Tower or Purity Forest, or can be found on all 15 floors in Darknight Relic.

Chestnuts

Chestnuts (イガグリ Chestnut) are a food item that are exclusive to Uproar Forest. They play a large role in a side plot during the main story, and only one can be found on the 9th Floor on every attempt. They fill up the belly by 50 points. This is the only item that uses the 'peel' option instead of the 'use', 'eat' or 'ingest' option that all other items have.

Seeds

Seeds (Japanese: タネ Seeds) are also an item that can be eaten, with every single seed restoring a Pokémon's belly by 5 points. They all share the same sprite. Seeds can have different effects once eaten, and can range from helpful things like dealing damage to enemies, or negative effects such as blocking out or mixing up a Pokémon's vision. Seeds can be placed and given to both a leader and a partner. They can also be thrown in a one-way direction, and if there is a Pokémon in the way, they have a chance of eating the seed and also gaining its effect.

See here for a full seed list: List of Seeds and their effects

Health Drinks

Health Drinks are also a type of edible item in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, and use the 'ingest' option. They all use the same sprites, and all fill the Pokémon's belly by 5 points. Health drinks do not become Grimy Food, but they are not prone to becoming sticky. If they are, they can still be ingested and a Pokémon can still gain the effects of the drink, but they also deal 2 damage. The same effect occurs when being thrown at a nearby Pokémon. Health drinks always increase a certain stat by a set amount, since effort values are not present in the Mystery Dungeon games.
