Draft:Shiren 5 2020:Peach
Peaches (Japanese: 普通の仙桃) are edible items that appear in Shiren the Wanderer 5 and 5 Plus. There are four variants of them in total.
Summary
Peaches are another major form of food in Shiren 5. (Onigiri are a primary source of food, and eating Grasses also restores a small amount of fullness.) Peaches ripen and rot naturally, from Hard Peach -> Peach -> Juicy Peach -> Rotten Peach. Working theory is that Peaches can only transform to the next form in the chain when you change floors, and only when they are in main inventory, and they only have a 33 - 50% chance to do so every time you change floorsTemplate:Data Needed. Rotten Peaches do not transform into any other item, no matter how many times you change floors. Unlike Rotten Onigiri, there is no known way to "recover" a Rotten Peach into a more useful form.
The three earlier forms of Peaches all have excellent, useful magic effects. The food value and magic effects get stronger and rarer as it ripens to a Juicy Peach, but the player may prefer the benefits of earlier forms. For example, the Juicy Peach gives you the very valuable Enduring status. There is only one other known way to get something like the Enduring status, which is via a secret pot effect added to a new item bracelet, and that effect is not guaranteed to trigger and save your life. Still, despite this amazing benefit of a Juicy Peach, the player may prefer the earlier form of the Peach, even though it has less food value, as the magic effects of the Peach may be more useful in the current situation.
Players may want to carry "lesser" forms of Peaches around in their main inventory to let them ripen to the desired form, then store them in pots such as a Preservation Pot for later use. If you do this, double check your main inventory before changing floors to make sure you aren't risking the loss of a Juicy Peach. Note also that being affected by a Decay Trap will turn all types of Peaches in main inventory into Rotten Peaches. It is not known if keeping a type of Peach in a pot for most of the floor then bringing it out just to change floors interferes with normal ripening.
Peaches are even more useful at night. Per their descriptions, they all restore some night abilities, though the specific chance or number of abilities restored by each form has not been precisely documented and is in need of research. Unlike Torches, Peaches can appear in dungeons even when those dungeons cannot experience night.
