The Shiren Mamel (Japanese: マムルシレン) is Shiren (player character) who has been forcefully transformed into a Mamel and can't revert normally. He must be struck by the Lucky Hammer to return to normal. Shiren must be rescued before you'll be able to take on the Catfish at the Catfish's Nest.
