Version Differences encompasses the Japanese, North American, and European releases of Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon.

Dialogue Changes

  • In the English version, early on in the game, when the partner is showing Serene Village to the hero, he/she calls the hero a "big Miltank" as a joke.
  • In the original Japanese version, when one of the Void Shadows impersonates Bunnelby, Mawile realizes he's an impostor because he refers to himself as オレ (meaning "I") rather than 自分(じぶん) (mening "myself") like he always does. This was changed or slightly tweaked in localizations:
    • In English, Mawile points out that the impostor says "I seen it" instead of "I saw it".
    • In French, Mawile claims Bunnelby would never say "de mes propres mirettes".
    • In Spanish, the impostor refers to himself using a female term ("segura", meaning certain), even though Bunnelby is male.
    • The German version is almost the same as the original, as Bunnelby always refers to himself in the third person, but the impostor says "ich" (I).
    • In Italian, rather than using a grammatical clue, Mawile claims the way the impostor moves is unlike Bunnelby.
  • In the original Japanese version, when Audino introduces the class to the topic of evolution, the partner mistakenly thinks it's about sex, and Shelmet seems to make the same assumption. This was changed in each localization:
    • In English, Shelmet has a surprised reaction, and the partner thinks evolution is "maturing quickly".
    • In French, Shelmet has a surprised reaction, and the partner mishears "évolution" (evolution) as "ébullition" (boiling).
    • In Spanish, Shelmet asks what evolution is, while the partner mishears "evolución" as "revolución", and claims they have already studied the topic in history class.
    • In German, Shelmet has a surprised reaction similar to the original, however the partner asks if it's about developing movies. Evolution in German is called Entwicklung, which can also mean development.
    • In Italian, Shelmet mishears "evoluzione" (evolution) as "ebollizione" (boiling), while the partner mishears it "rivoluzione" (revolution), and claims they have already studied the topic in history class.

Miscellaneous

  • Text and graphics were changed to match the available language(s).
  • Wonder Mail codes are different in each version.
  • In the European version, it's impossible to choose whether the partner is male or female, always being forced as female instead. The Japanese and North American versions give a choice right after choosing the Pokémon species.
  • When the icon of the European and North American versions of the game are hovered over in the Nintendo 3DS HOME Menu the banner plays the recruitment jingle like Adventure Squad and Gates to Infinity, while the original Japanese version plays the new Connection Orb sound effect.
