States (Japanese: ステータス), or status conditions, can inflict Torneko, monsters and characters via monsters, traps and items. They inflict and provide various positive and negative effects on Torneko and can make a world of difference when it comes to survival.
States
The following list happens on both Torneko and the targeted monsters.

Negative | Blindness | 目つぶし | The screen goes black. Torneko has a higher chance to miss attacks. | Enemies walk in random directions and have a higher chance to miss attacks. |
Confusion | 混乱 | No matter what direction you move, Torneko will move in a random direction. When attacking, Torneko will attack in a random direction, meaning he can attack in a different direction than you're facing. | Moves in random directions. | |
Fear | くちなし | Torneko is unable to attack, nor can he uses items. | Enemy runs away from you. | |
Madowashi | まどわし | Torneko hallucinates and sees items as flowers, and monsters as himself. | Enemy becomes unable to act. | |
