Introduction

The blacksmith Kumaji (Japanese: クマジ) resides in his own house within Template:Shiren3. You can easily identify this house by the large red banner on its front. He lives with his children Template:Shiren3 (Japanese: サト) and Template:Shiren3 (Japanese: カスケ). The blacksmith in this game is fairly unique compared to other games in the Shiren series as his services are not immediately available to the player from the start. He is severely ill, thus incapacitating him and preventing you from utilizing his services right away. This won't be remedied until you finish the Blacksmith's side quest.

Cure the Blacksmith (Required to use Blacksmith services)

To unlock the blacksmith, first speak with the sick Kumaji at any point during the game to hear his story. After you speak with him, check his table near his bed to obtain the Tattered Scroll quest Template:Shiren3. The next step involves traveling to the past and speaking with the blacksmith's ancestor, Template:Shiren3. Three events force you to travel to the past during the main story, but the earliest is after defeating Template:Shiren3 beyond Template:Shiren3. Doing that opens up Otsutsuki Village in the past after completing Template:Shiren3. Simply visit the blacksmith's shop in the past and speak with Torakichi while you have the Template:Shiren3 in your possession. He will give you medicine and a more readable version of the scroll for his distant descendant. Finally, deliver both items to Kumaji, and he will now provide his services to you after you enter any Template:Shiren3 and return to Otsutsuki Village.

Services

In this game, each of the blacksmith's services is limited to one use per visit. If asked for a service a second time, he will say he's run out of materials, which prevents the player from rapidly abusing his services. His services will become available again after the player enters and exits any dungeon, so the most convenient one would be the Template:Shiren3; the 1 F Stairs allow easy exit without the expense of a Template:Shiren3 (Template:Shiren3 or Template:Shiren3), and saving the 1 F map allows efficient refreshing if the stairs spawned in the starting room.

Temper 1,500 Cure the Smith This will add +1 to a weapon or shield. Rarely it will instead add +3 to the item. Items can only be strengthened up to their maximum value by using this method.
Purge 5,000 Cure the Smith This will remove unwanted seals from your weapon, shield, or armband. Only seals added to an item through melding can be selected, not the original ability that comes with the item.
Add Slot 10,000 + Random Item Finish the Story All 3 types of items can have their seal slots increased by 1, up to the maximum of 12. Kumaji will also tell you a riddle regarding an item transformation if you answer no to his question.

Slot Adding Tip - Make sure you save your game before the first time you speak with the blacksmith to add a slot (when you need to know which item he'll want). If his requested item is especially hard to find, you can simply return to the main menu without saving, reload your file, then talk to him again. This can be really important to avoid missing out on this feature during a relevant part of your playthrough, as the blacksmith can ask for any item in the game without reservation, even if it is an extremely rare postgame dungeon item that can be insanely difficult to find. If you save your game after you speak with him, his requested item will be locked in. After the first time you use this feature, make sure that you always save your game before using the add slot service to enhance your gear.

Item Transformation

When you add seal slots to your items, the blacksmith will give you a random cryptic message that he found on an old scroll in his shop. These messages needed to be memorized or written down by the player as the game never tracks this information. What the messages refer to are Item Transformations. If you fuse certain Template:Shiren3, Template:Shiren3, and Template:Shiren3 with specific Template:Shiren3, then offer them to a specific Template:Shiren3, the base Template:Shiren3 can transform into a more powerful item. Below are all the possible messages. Some items might need to be brought back to the Blacksmith or inserted into a Template:Shiren3. These items are far more powerful than most other items you can find in dungeons, and can be helpful in easing the difficulty of the postgame dungeons that allow you to carry in items.
