Allies seem to have indefinite speeding up turns. Is it different with Accelerating Staff?

I was clearing a monster house and a skull mage zapped Kechi with Acceleration. Kechi ended up going at double speed until I ascended to the next floor. However, this page says "Swing this staff at Shiren's Allies to increase their speed and combat potential for 11 Double Speed turns (5 - 6 normal)." Is it something specific to the Acceleration staff which is not in play when getting hit by a Skull Mage? Or is it just a mis-type from the effect on Shiren?
