Managed to find an address which sets which floor you're on: 7E8427
It decides what level you start at:
if initial floor=1-6, start lv1
if initial floor=7-13, start lv12(1200 EXP)
if initial floor=14-20, start lv20(6000 EXP)
if initial floor=21+, start lv27(25000 EXP)
It decides what monsters appear (there's visible monster progression from floors 1-29)
And setting it to floor 2 even brings up a partner event that I think was week 1 only
Interestingly, it doesn't have any effect on progress in the week's episode - you always go through 8 floors, even if they're all 'floor 1'
I also couldn't find a way of triggering the previous towns from the other weeks, though the 'reset and go back to town X!' messages are still there
And yep, the partner was on floor 2 on week 1
But it seems possible that a lot of the scripts are still there

alright, got both translations extracted in semi-usable form
Took a look at the versions of Shiren, seems like the script is nearly identical between the retail/BS, just a couple lines added/missing here and there I'd need to synch up
Also: the script is the same between BS week 2 and BS week 4, it looks like text for all the weeks are in there
specific script differences: BS is missing what looks like an opening cutscene, and has these extra lines: 'All of your items were identified' 'Your belly stopped emptying' 'Your belly started emptying again' 'The floor suddenly got brighter' 'An item appeared', 'BS Cave', 'You safely reached the top of the dungeon with Surara', 'Shopkeeper: "I'm having a sale right now! The price for the items you bought is only ###, is that okay?"'
I guess most of those are used for soundlinked events
Still need to finish transcribing the font from both versions, but if space can be found in the BS ROM, might be easier than expected to insert the translation

...or perhaps not. Looks like the fantranslation completely rewrote the font handling, even the pointer list the Japanese text uses was ignored
Turns out there's a debug mode with floor skip / give item / sound and animation test powers and more
Fantranslation didn't find it and either dummied out or mistranslated all of its text :(
To unlock the debug mode, change 0x8000-0x8001 in the ROM from FF FF to 00 00(edited)
After that, you can press Start to skip a floor, or various key combos + Start are debug features

For miscellaneous knowledge, it seems 7 characters are unique to the BS version script: 促prompt 戚family relative 着arrive 週week 閉close N S
The inn in the town is 'close'd, you 'arrive' at each 'week''s B'S' cave goal, there's beta text about an Instruction 'N'PC to 'prompt' you to go back for a better score, and for some reason the Security Guards at the shops got renamed to the Shopkeeper's 'Relative's"

The retail version uses a larger font / character set than the BS version
So even the same text won't match between the two versions

I guess they recompiled the font based on character usage in the BS ver
So I guess that 一時しのぎの杖 Temporary Reprieve Rod sends the target to the stairs

I remember the BS Pot was explained in the soundlink audio...
I've forgotten what it was for though, they went through and explained all the pots
seeing all the rabbits, I wonder if one of the Soundlink events was 'randomly appearing rabbits'

(bruteforced out part of a text dump)
With a normal completion score being 1 million, and a Surara completion score being 2 million, that spring is a rude event...

Those credits use letters not in the Shiren font too... Maybe it's the BS-X font
All of his scores are around 1 million
Wonder if that means he never managed to Save Surara
Though the text at the bottom says it's a repeat broadcast with no send-in ranking
I think the Floor up TRE was put there with the specific intent of trolling someone who thought they could just save Surura with their stored items.
Like they wanted to force a player to scrapper through 22-29 at least once.

The loading screen about 4-5 minutes in did warn the player not to be too greedy in taking all the items at once
But being a live game...

Exactly!
And since it's technically a competitive scorerun, that totally screws with the skill element, since it bascially is designed to trap people who are "good" at the game.
