Shiren the Wanderer 5 Plus: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate has a huge number of locations to unlock and explore. As with previous games in the series, the bulk of the game's content is only accessible "post-game", after beating the main dungeon and completing the main storyline. See individual location pages for strategy tips specific to those locations. For general strategy tips, see the Strategy Guides section.
Introduction
Shiren 5 Plus locations can be broken down into six categories.
Starting Villages
Inori Village and Nekomaneki Village are starting villages. In these villages, the player can interact with a large number of shops and NPCs, advance quests, unlock game elements, and manipulate inventory, without starting a potentially risky dungeon run. Almost all other locations can be reached from somewhere within these two villages.
Hermit's Hermitage and Sparrow's Inn are also major rest areas, but they are different from the starting villages because traveling to these locations commits you to a dungeon run. As such they are considered parts of the main dungeon, Tower of Fortune.
Tutorial Dungeon
Ouma Shrine is a training dungeon that initially separates the two Starting Villages. Once you beat it, it can never be accessed again, leaving an unfettered two-way connection between the two villages.
Main Dungeon
Tower of Fortune is the main dungeon in Shiren 5, and the location where the main storyline takes place. It includes many dungeons and rest areas from Destiny Trail through Miracle Alcove. Some bonus dungeons can also be launched here, once they are unlocked. The game tracks expert badges for the Tower of Fortune as a whole.
Puzzle Sets
Puzzle sets include the two Training Facilities and Statue Cave. Each individual puzzle is preset, not randomly generated, and usually consists of a single floor. Entering a puzzle does not count as starting a run, and does not refresh shops in the starting villages. You can replay a puzzle as often as you wish, and you can reset or leave the puzzle at any time. You can't take items into a puzzle and start each puzzle with an empty inventory, but if you were carrying items when you started a puzzle, you get them back after leaving the puzzle. You cannot take items out of a puzzle set, although some puzzle sets provide rewards for beating them.
Minigames
Explosion Rocks is a randomly generated game most akin to Minesweeper but with a Shiren twist. You can't take your items in, so you must store them before starting or lose them, but you do get to keep items you find if you win.
Bonus Dungeons
Shiren 5 Plus has 30 bonus dungeons, including 11 from the original Shiren 5, 16 from the PlayStation Vita port and 3 from the Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows ports.
Some of these dungeons were built-in to the original Japanese version of Shiren 5. They tend to be accessible from unique locations, but only after being unlocked by completing various side quests. Once unlocked, you can also jump to these bonus dungeons from the Sparrow Transport. The other dungeons were available as downloadable or bonus content in the Japanese and PlayStaion Vita version of Shiren 5 Plus, but are included for free in the English version and later ports. These bonus dungeons tend to be available right away from the Dungeon Center in Nekomaneki Village.
The bonus dungeons tend to be much more difficult than the Tower of Fortune main quest. Many of these dungeons don't let you take items or Gitan in, and will remind you if you try to enter with items or Gitan on you. You should store your items and Gitan at the Nekomaneki Hotel before you enter these dungeons. Even if the dungeon allows items, you could easily die and lose all your items if you aren't prepared.
Most bonus dungeons let you keep the items and Gitan you get from the run if you win. They tend to have a twist on the baseline rules emphasizing one particular aspect of Shiren play. For example, Merchant's Hideout focuses on shops, Froggo's Fury focuses on Gitan-eating equipment, Page of Youth focuses on monster licenses, Sleeping Lands focuses on nighttime play, and so on. Different dungeons also have different distributions of items and monsters. This can be obvious - the majority of scrolls that appear in Page of Youth are Nixer Scrolls - or rather subtle. For example, Underground Manor is similar to some other 99F dungeons (such as Master's Footsteps), but it does not have Mixer monsters, which makes it a lot harder to obtain certain runes. There are other parameters that bonus dungeons can have, such as which types of items are identified by default.
Escalating Goals
Most bonus dungeons start with an shorter end goal, but after you beat them once, the end goal becomes harder (usually 99F) and stays there, with no way to play the shorter version ever again. Beating the initial, shorter goal counts as a victory in your Adventure Log. The game does not track whether you have beaten the hardest version of a dungeon.
For some dungeons, usually the ones built-in to the Japanese version originally, the game tracks 8 expert badges. To obtain an expert badge, you must beat the dungeon while adhering to a very difficult constraint, such as winning without ever directly attacking a monster. You can learn more about the specifics of each expert badge by viewing the expert badges in your Adventure Log and using the left shoulder button.
