|Don't eat unless it's an emergency. Restores a small amount of fullness + poisons you (decreases strength by 1 and gives you Slow status ailment). Onigiri-type enemies will die instantly if you hit them with this. If you need food, don't throw it out, as you can probably grill it.
|Most types of onigiri in your main inventory turn into Rotten Onigiri if you trigger a Decay Trap.

Summary

Real-world Onigiri are rice balls, and the word "onigiri" is apparently both singular and plural (like "fish"). Unfortunately, "Onigiri" is both the name of the category of items and also the name of one type of item, so throughout this description, the capitalized word "Onigiri" might refer to the specific type or the category.

Onigiri are the primary source of food in Shiren 5, though Peaches also restore a large amount of fullness and Grasses restore a small amount of fullness. Unlike Peaches, Onigiri don't ripen or rot naturally, and they will last indefinitely if left unaffected. That being said, except for the two rarest types of Onigiri (Silver and Gold), all other types of Onigiri kept in main inventory will turn into Rotten Onigiri if affected by a Decay Trap, and they will all turn into Grilled Onigiri if affected by fire (such as taking fire damage from a monster or trap, or by putting them in a Grilling Pot). These effects can be avoided by keeping Onigiri in pots. (Onigiri on the ground will also not become Grilled Onigiri if you are affected by fire, but, some types of damage destroy all items on the ground around you.) Though Grilled Onigiri have less food value and less magical value than some types of Onigiri, in can be important to deliberately convert other types of Onigiri into Grilled Onigiri anyway if healing items are in short supply.
