Blessings and Curses
Blessing and Cursing items are two modifier states that can apply to any and every item you can hold within your inventory. Blessed items have additional positive effects while cursed items are mostly incapable of being used.
Blessing
Blessings are identified by a bell icon being next to an item, as well as the text color of the item changing from its usual white to a pinkish red. Blessings are sometimes difficult to pinpoint what exactly it is that they do for you, as they subtlety enhance items. All blessings protect the blessed item from being cursed once, after which the blessing will fade, leaving the item as normal. On top of that, blessings may also provide additional unique effects for your items. For specific item bonuses, refer to the chart below.
Item | Description |
---|---|
Any Weapon | Slight increase in damage dealt with the weapon. The blessing has a chance to wear off on its own with each use. |
Any Shield | Slight reduction in damage received while using the shield. The blessing has a chance to wear off on its own with each use. |
Any Armband | No additional effect known. Merely protects the item from being cursed one time. |
Any Jar | No additional effect known. Merely protects the item from being cursed one time. |
Any Stone Item | Slight increase in damage dealt when thrown. |
Obtaining Blessed Items
Curses
Items that become cursed can no longer be used until you remove the curse. All items can be cursed and if you equip cursed items, you will be unable to remove them normally. On top of that, weapons, shields, and armbands lose their effects. Cursed projectiles can not be stacked and combined to remove curses which is the case in some other Shiren titles. Curses will also reduce the sale price of the item and reduce the damage dealt when the item is thrown at the monsters a low value while nullifying any effects that item may normally induce.
Obtaining Cursed Items
Items found in dungeons have a chance to be cursed. They can be cursed directly in your inventory by monsters of the VooDummy family or by stepping on curse traps. Items stored in a jar can't be cursed but the jar itself can be. Swords and shields found cursed in dungeons will have a value of -1.
Removing Curses
There are several ways to get rid of curses on your items.
- Reading a Blessing Scroll will remove a curse from the selected item and sometimes all items not in jars in your inventory.
- Reading a Plating Scroll will remove any curses from the selected item if it was a weapon or a shield.
- Air Bless Scrolls and Earth Bless scrolls will also remove curses from your equipped sword or shield respectively.
- Inserting a cursed item into a Purification Jar will remove the curse and a Blessing Jar will also remove the curse.
- Offering an item to a Dragon Orb and letting some time pass will have a high chance to remove a curse.
- A Scroll of Need can remove curses as one of its effects if a lot of your items are cursed.
Alternatively:
Stepping on an Unequip Trap will remove your equipped items which is useful if your equipment is cursed
