The first Shiren game was released for the Super Famicom on December 1, 1995. It was titled 不思議のダンジョン2 風来のシレン, which translates to '''''Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer'''''. While this was the first game in the Shiren series, it was the second "Mystery Dungeon" game, hence the number 2 in the original title. In 2006, after being ported to the Nintendo DS it was released under the title: 不思議のダンジョン 風来のシレン DS in 2008, the game was later translated into English and released for the Nintendo DS under the title '''''Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer''''', dropping DS from the name since it was never officially released in English for the Super Famicom. Fans did create a high quality patch for the original, which this wiki supports. English-speaking fans of the game almost universally refer to this game by the short name '''Shiren 1'''. See the [[Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer|Shiren the Wanderer]] series page for more information on official and unofficial names.
The first Etrian Mystery Dungeon game was released for the Nintendo 3DS on March 5, 2015 in Japan. It was titled 世界樹と不思議のダンジョン, which translates to Seikaiju to Fushigi no Danjon, lit. World Tree Mystery Dungeon. In April 2015, the game was official released in North America under the title of Etrian Mystery Dungeon and later in September in Europe. See the [[Etrian Mystery Dungeon]] series page for more information on the series as a whole.
