A selected list of Nintendo Switch games are retro compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. All Nintendo Switch Mystery Dungeon games are playable and stable on Nintendo Switch 2, with advantages from the latter hardware such as faster loading time and a constant framerate.[1] Further hardware patches have fixed most of these games, making them all compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 as of update 20.1.5, released on June 18, 2025.[2]
In its release, every unpatched Nintendo Switch games had a framerate fixed to 30 FPS and a resolution fixed to 720p when handheld and 1080p when docked. Games that got compatibility patch updates later on would have an upgrade in framerate, up to 60 FPS or 120 FPS when handheld and when docked with screens supporting 120 Hz, though limited to 1080p and 1440p screen resolutions, and in resolution, up to 1080p when handheld and up to 4K (2160p) when docked.[1][3]
