Quests
Quests are special events that include and take place outside of the main storyline. They can only be completed once, unless you erase your data. Many have lasting rewards that you can continue to take advantage of in the long term. Several are key to unlocking Bonus Dungeons. The quests in Shiren 5 have been sorted into 3 categories. Most quests in the game involve interacting with NPCs, and unlock new dungeons after clearing them.
Story Quests
The Tower of Fortune (Japanese: フォーチュンタワー) is the the primary story location of Shiren 5 and is intimately tied to this location. It consists of multiple sub-locations and villages. It has many special aspects as compared to bonus dungeons.
The main storyline of Shiren 5 revolves around Jirokichi and Oyu's storyline. This represents only a small fraction of the content available in the game. After beating the main dungeons and finishing the main storyline, you begin to unlock access to a much larger set of "post-game" content.
In Inori Village, a woman named Oyu is dying from an illness, which is her fate. However, Jirokichi, her lover, refuses to watch her death and heads out to the Tower of Fortune to change Oyu's destiny. After seeing this event, Shiren and Koppa decide to help them, and go to the Tower of Fortune to aid Jirokichi in his quest.
Post-Story Quests
After beating the main dungeon once, he asks to join you. If you take him all the way to the top of the Tower of Fortune, you'll unlock the Pitfall of Life dungeon.
After clearing the main story, you'll find a sparrow wandering in the Tower of Fortune. The sparrow asks you to take it to its home, the Sparrow's Inn. Accept to take it with you and it'll join your party. If you successfully bring back the sparrow to its home, it'll offer to heal you completely when in trouble for 500 Gitan, once per adventure.
Side Quests
The blacksmith at Hermit's Hermitage is not offering his usual service. Give him a Juicy Peach and he'll start working again, upgrading a weapon or shield for 1,000 Gitan, once per adventure.
