Monster Movement
Enemies appear to set a destination for themselves. You can figure out what this destination is (especially if you've used a Navigation Scroll or have a Monster Detector bracelet) by observing their movements. They will move diagonally until they've aligned themselves vertically/horizontally with the hallway they intend to walk into. This can be useful for getting in front of fleeing enemies like Snacky, FO-UZ, or Froggies that have stolen Gitan.
Enemies can "see" one grid square into the hallways around the edges of a room. If you want to lure enemies in a room into a hallway, stand right at the edge. Those in the room will set your hallway as their destination. Once they have, you can retreat further into the hallway so you don't attract more enemies than you bargained for.
Some enemies can be identified by the movement of their map dots. A group of three is probably a Floaty type. If it's stationary, it's either asleep, or it's a Moseal. If it's moving two spaces per turn, well, it could be a variety of types, but whatever it is, you don't want to encounter it unless you're standing in a hallway.
Moving around Metalhead types and Pop Tank types is a skill worth practicing. There's a lesson in the Beginner House where you can practice with Metalheads. The speed of Pop Tanks, in particular, affects the way you move around them. They can only attack every other turn. On a turn where they can attack, make sure you're not aligned with them, and not standing next to a wall where they can get you with splash damage!
Monsters with ranged attacks won't use them on you if you're in a hallway, because they can't "see" you. This is true even if they "should" know that you're still at/around a given location because you haven't had enough turns to run away; their behavior doesn't account for this and so they still won't use a ranged attack.
