When Trapper Bracelet Mode is in effect, Traps behave very differently. Ordinarily, traps are invisible, they can't be moved, they are triggered by "pressure activation", and they have a high chance to trigger any time Shiren walks on them. In short, they behave much as you'd expect traps in an RPG to behave. However:
- Traps are now fully visible, can be picked up, moved, thrown, and otherwise manipulated in inventory.
- Shiren no longer triggers traps by walking on them (but can still trigger them manually by standing on them and using the Feet menu).
- Monsters now trigger traps instead.
In short, Trapper Bracelet Mode plays radically differently than normal Shiren gameplay.
This mode was introduced in Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer, and exist in other Shiren titles.
Entering and Leaving Trapper Bracelet Mode
Trapper Bracelet Mode is in effect whenever Shiren has a non-sealed Trapper Bracelet equipped, or any non-sealed new item bracelet with the Trapper Runes crafted onto it. Thus, in most dungeons that let you take items in, you can switch between Trapper Bracelet Mode and normal mode at will by equipping and un-equipping a bracelet with this magic effect on it.
Trapper Bracelet Mode is also always in effect in both Gen's Turf and Trapper's Sandbox.
Trapper Bracelets are rare, but you can get them from the above two dungeons and possibly other locations as well.
Don't mix up the Trapper Bracelet with the Trap Bracelet! The former controls this mode, the latter causes more traps to appear over time on the dungeon floor. (It's hard to use a Trap Bracelet by itself to good effect, but using both Trapper and Trap together could allow you to keep creating more and more traps that you could see and use to your benefit.)
Traps as Items
Traps cannot be blessed, cursed, or sealed.
(Move more facts about traps as items to this page.)
Ways to Use Traps
- Carry Spring Traps or Pit Traps with you, so you can always escape a bad situation. (Dropping a trap doesn't cost a turn, so you can drop it at your feet and trigger it in a single turn.)
- Collect Pit Traps so you can always steal from shopkeepers without ever taking a risk.
- Carry a Time Switch Trap with you to be able to switch time even if you don't have a light source.
- Decay Traps are probably helpful against onigiri monsters.
