Template:Infobox Bosses (Shiren 1)
General Information
Spawns inside a Great Hall Monster House starting from 40F of the Tainted Path, and reoccurring every ten floors before the Tainted Queen is defeated. Once the Tainted Queen is defeated, the next adventure to the Tainted Path will not have these Monster Houses, or Tainted Soldier mini-bosses. The Item a Tainted Soldier always drops is a Chiropractic Jar.
Occasions when the defeated Tainted Soldier will NOT drop a Chiropractic Jar
- When transformed into another Monster using Monster Meat.
- When defeated after an Item is knocked away by a Cell Armor Family Monster.
- When defeated after an Item is stolen by a Thiefwalrus Family Monster.
- When defeated by a thrown Scroll of Removal.
Combat Strategy
Trap Strategies:
By the use of a Trap Armband or by consuming Mecharoid Family Monster Meat, Shiren will become a Trap Master and be able to use Traps against Monsters. Almost all of the traps listed can also function when thrown, however, this would inflexibly require a Trap Armband to be equipped, and even so, thrown Traps may also miss and land on the floor. This section also includes strategies that do not require either, and may be viable as Tainted Soldiers appear in Monster Houses that already contain Traps.
Traps that can pacify the Tainted Soldier:
- Sleeping Gas Trap - Will fall Asleep and not attack for 5-10 turns.
- Immobilization Trap - Will not be able to move from one square but can still attack Shiren from an adjacent square.
- Spinning Trap - Will become Confused and will move randomly for 5-10 turns but may still attack Shiren.
- Slowness Trap - Will move at half speed permanently.
- Dream Gas Trap - Will cause the Tainted Soldier to be scared and move away from Shiren for 5-10 turns. It also won't attack Shiren in this state.
Traps that can deal high damage to Tainted Soldiers:
Mecharoid meat or a Trap Armband are not especially required for this technique, but a way to have the Trap present on the floor is required. As Tainted Soldiers appear in Monster Houses, finding one should not be difficult. For these techniques, Items with high healing capabilities such as a Chiropractic Jar can be useful if a Shield with a Blast Seal is not available.
- Landmine Trap - Will always deal damage equal to approximately half the current HP of the Tainted Soldier.
While the damage dealt by this trap will decrease exponentially with the number of times it damages the Tainted Soldier, using it once or twice will deal ~375 damage, and using it five times will deal ~438 damage out of 500 total health.
Caution should be taken, because Monster-Shiren may be caught in the blast radius when the Trap is triggered, and while transformed, equipment seals do not apply, and therefore the effect of any Blast seal will be negated and the full explosion damage will be taken.
However, if the Trap is triggered by Shiren in their original form, while the Tainted Soldier is within the blast radius, any Blast seal will apply, and the player should heal if necessary.
- Big Landmine Trap - When triggered by the Tainted Soldier, will leave them at 1 HP, however, as stated above, without a Shield with a Blast seal, Shiren will also be left at 1 HP and will be at risk of being killed in the next turn. A Big Landmine Trap also has the potential to instantly defeat the Tainted Soldier, see Instant Death Trap Strategies below.
Instant Death Trap strategies:
Defeated Tainted Soldier will drop a Chiropractic Jar
- When defeated by a Pitfall Trap.
- When defeated by a Hunger Trap.
- When hit once by the blast radius of a Big Landmine Trap. The Tainted Soldier has to be adjacent to the trap, and Shiren has to be the one who triggers it. This option does not require a Trap Armband or Mecharoid meat to function, though it does require a Big Landmine Trap, which can likely be found on the Monster House floor.
While the Tainted Soldier is transformed as a Riceball, the above situations will still cause it to drop a Chiropractic Jar.
Defeated Tainted Soldier will NOT drop a Chiropractic Jar
- When changed into a Riceball then defeated by a Rotten Trap.
- When defeated by a Rotten Trap
In both situations, a Rotten Riceball will drop instead.
