General Information

Herbs are a one time use item introduced in Shiren 1. Herbs are some of the most varied items in the game. They have a myriad of different effects that the player can utilize to assist them either by eating the herb to use their effects on Shiren, or they can be thrown to use their effects against monsters. All herbs when consumed will recover 5 fullness in addition to any other effects they may have with the exception of the Big Belly and Little Belly seeds. Most herbs will apply their effect to a monster if they have one that is applicable, otherwise they will do a set 2 damage to a monster if thrown at them.

In both Shiren 1 SFC and DS, Herbs do not provide any melding benefits to swords and shields, which is a feature added in future titles. Cursed herbs are unable to be consumed by Shiren, and none of their effects will work when thrown at a monster, instead only dealing the set 2 damage.

Fan translations

Due to the importance of fan translations in the Shiren community, fan-translated names for the SFC and NDS, including English, Korean, Chinese and Spanish alongside their official names are listed side by side on the Rosetta Stone page for Shiren 1.
