General Information
Traps can be found on floor tiles and cause various effects when tripped. They cannot be seen unless stepping on them, swiping with a sword over them, or eating an Herb of Sight.
Normally, Shiren is vulnerable to traps while monsters can walk over them without tripping them. However, if Shiren wears a Trap Master Armband, the reverse is true. Shiren will be able to see traps and avoid them, and monsters will be affected by traps, although Shiren and monsters can be affected in slightly different ways by some traps (see table below). Shiren will also be able to pick up, place, throw, and trigger traps.
If Shiren has been transformed into a Mecharoid monster, he will also not be vulnerable to traps but other monsters will be vulnerable.
If Shiren has traps in his inventory but is not wearing a Trap Master Armband, they will become Broken Traps when leaving the floor. Broken Traps have no use.
Floating monsters will not be affected by traps unless Shiren reads a Super Trap Scroll.
See the Shiren 1 Trap Strategy Guide for ideas about how to avoid and exploit traps, which should be close to 100% accurate for this game as well.
