'Say Farewell' is the command given when the leader wants the target Pokémon to leave the team forever. Pokemon that are given this command will disappear from the team forever, unlike 'Rescue Team/Gameplay Elements/Stand By' which only commands the target Pokémon to stay in its Friend Area. Legendary Pokemon that are dismissed can be fought and recruited again with the exceptions of Latias & Latios.

There is only 1 method for giving this command. However, there is a second way for Pokemon that have just been recruited and aren't considered full members of the team yet.
Before the credits roll, the player cannot change the leader. The leader is always the Starter Pokémon. However, after the credits have rolled, the player can change the team leader. The player controls the team leader, while the original team leader returns to its Friend Area. The original team leader is still on the team member list, so the player has to make them Stand By if they don't want it on the team.

This works for all Pokémon except the starter and the partner, neither of which can ever be dismissed.

Team Leader

Team leader is the Pokémon the player plays as. They sleep in the Rescue Team Base.

Changing the Leader

Before the credits roll, the player cannot change the leader. The leader is always the Starter Pokémon. However, after the credits have rolled, the player can change the team leader. The player controls the team leader, while the original team leader returns to its Friend Area. The original team leader is still on the team member list, so the player has to make them Stand By if they don't want it on the team.
