Main Menu

Create a Travel Journal

You must first create a Travel Journal to play the game. Begin by choosing a name for the Journal. You can always change the name in the Travel Journal Settings in the Main Menu! You can only create 1 Journal on 1 Game Card. Be careful with them.

Go on an Adventure

You play using data in your Travel Journal. If you stop an adventure part-way, you can pick up where you left off by using this option.

Travel Journal Settings

You can change your Journal name or erase your Travel Journal! Your Friend Code stays the same, even if you change your name. When you erase the Journal, all data, except for your Adventure Log and Ranking, is deleted. If you create a new Travel Journal, you will get a new Friend Code.

Adventure Log

The events of your adventures are recorded in this log. Hidden items (marked with ????) will be revealed when conditions are met.

Traveler Rescue

You can help another adventurer who has died during an adventure or get help yourself when you die. This can be done via Nintendo WFC, wireless communications or a password! Using Nintendo WFC, adventurers can help each other even if they aren't on each other's Friends Lists. When you rescue people using this system, you will receive 1 item as a reward. You can also use Nintendo WFC wireless communications to give items to other people.

Awaiting Rescue

While you wait for someone to rescue you, under certain conditions you can go on adventures in dungeons you've already explored. In this case, your adventures start in the Warehouse.

Rankings

Your adventure scores are recorded in the rankings. Register in Nintendo WFC Rankings to compete with other adventurers. When you register your score, you will receive a title.

Time Attack

In this mode, try to clear Table Mountain in the shortest time possible. You cannot play Time Attack unless you meet certain conditions. Register your time in the Time Rankings to compete against other adventurers and receive a title. You can also play against the top-ranked time. Use the Dungeon Settings to set the upper screen to Location Map to see where the other players are.

Nintendo WFC Settings

You can configure your Nintendo WFC settings, add friends to your Friends Roster and view your Friend Code here. You need to configure your Nintendo WFC Settings to use Nintendo WFC for rescues.

Other Settings

You can adjust your settings or view hints. Use the Game Settings to control the volume of sound effects and the music, and adjust use of the Touch Screen.

Dungeon Settings

Adjust settings to make your adventures easier to play. You can set your walking speed and what is shown on the upper screen.

How to Save

Select Quit in the Menu Window to save your Travel Journal. Warning: If you interrupt a game and begin playing again before you turn power OFF, you will fail that adventure.

Overall Map

Any room or hall you pass through is automatically added to the map. you'll see: You Enemy Traveler Item Trap Stairs

Sorting Items

1: Open the Inventory Window!

2: Press either Y or Select, or touch Sort.

That will quickly sort the items you have.

Introduction to Basic Gameplay

Attacking with Arrows

You can easily attack monsters further away from you with arrows, which fly a great distance. Open the Inventory Window to select and fire arrows. If you have arrows equipped, fire them by pressing L.

Movement Speed

In general, you can make 1 move each turn. This can, however, be changed by traps and items:

Slow: 1 move/2 turns

Double speed double attack: 2 moves/1 turn

Try to avoid monsters when in slow mode.

Status Abnormalities

There are a variety of status ailments which can limit your movement. It is possible to recover from some of them with items like a Restorative Herb or a Pressure Point Jar.

Curses

When an item is cursed, a variety of negative effects can occur:

You can't use it!

 Its abilities are unavailable!

 You can't remove it!

You can use a Scroll of Blessing to remove a curse.

Monster Types

If you throw a Medicinal Herb at a Ghost-type monster you will hurt it. It makes sense to attack monsters with items that work on their type.

Gust of Wind

If you spend too much time on one floor of a dungeon, a gust of wind will blow and take you back to the Canyon Hamlet! It's better to get to the next floor before that wind blows.

Eat Meat to Get Abilities

You can change into a monster by eating its meat. When that happens, you will get the monster's abilities! They can be used over and over.

Moving in Turns

You and the monsters take turns moving--first you, then the monsters. If you do nothing, the monsters won't move either.

Throwing Herbs and Staves

Some herbs have special effects when you throw them at monsters. When staves are down to 0 uses, you can throw them for thesame effect.

Unidentified Items

If you pick up an unidentified item, use a Scroll of Identity to learn its name and effects. You might also just try using it to see what happens. Once you know its effect, name the item.

Upgraded Weapons and Shields

When a weapon or shield has a number like +3 or -1 after its name, it has been upgraded or weakened. The greater the positive number, the more powerful it is. A negative number means it is weaker. Different items will have different upgrade limits, so read their descriptions carefully.

Bulk Jar Transfers

When you place items into jars or take items out of jars, use R to select items so you can transfer all of the items in 1 turn.

Buying Things in Shops

1: Stand on an item you want

3: Talk to the shopkeeper and pay gitans.

Shops are in both towns and dungeons. Collect gitans to buy the items you need.

Stealing

If you don't have enough gitans to buy an item you want, you can try stealing it. But both the Shopkeepers and the Sheriff are strong, so have an escape route in mind.

Normal

You have no status ailments. You can move normally.

Confused

Your sense of direction is off when you move and attack. You will recover soon.

Puzzled

You're unable to tell monsters, items, stairs, traps, etc., apart. You will recover soon.

Sleepy

You fall asleep and stop moving. You will recover soon.

Deep Sleep

Immobilize monsters by making them fall into a deep sleep. When they wake, however, their speed will be 1 level faster, so be careful.

Immobilized

You are unable to attack or move. You will be able to move if you are hit by an attack or a special ability.

Hypnotized

Your actions are out of your control for a turn. After that, it becomes the monster'sturn.

Blinded

Everything is dark because you cannot see. You will recover soon.

Paralyzed

You are unable to move, as if someone nailed you to the spot. You will recover soon. Also, you can move if you get knocked back or teleported to another location.

Riceball

You turn into a Riceball and are unable to use any items or abilities. You will recover soon, but be careful:If you step on a Rotten Trap, you will be destroyed.

Double Speed

Your movements become faster, allowing you to move 2 times in 1 turn. You will return to normal speed after some time.

I had a terrible time the other day. We come down the stairs and end up in a Monster House! There was nothing we could do. We had our heads handed to us... If only we'd had a Blastwave Scroll then... Why!? Why does this happen to me?

The stronger you make a weapon, the higher that number gets. But keep in mind that therefs a limit, depending on the item type. you'll see the !cB‚•pgrade limit for weapons and shields in the description.[¡] Monsters in the swamp will rust your weapons and shields, so be careful.[¡]The key is to keep your eyes open so you can decide what to do next. Walking along without thinking is a recipe for real pain. Move carefully, particularly when therefs a tough monster nearby. Another key is taking advantage of any !cBitems you find on the way. If you're in a bind, using an !cBitem well might just get you out of it. Sometimes an adventure isnft as easy as it looks, but keep trying. As you travel Kobami Valley, you don't always have to go forward. Up until Cryptic Rock Valley, you can travel forward or back. If the going gets tough, it might be good to come back for a bit. If you do that, though, you won't see items lying in the dungeons. But be careful! If you go all the way back to Canyon Hamlet, you'll revert to Level 1.

There are lots of traps in the Kobami Valley. You have to watch out for them, you know. If you bump into one by mistake, you can break a jar. If you swing a sword when you're next to a trap, you'll see it.

There are times when you have to deal with a lot of monsters at once, right? When that happens, you should find a corridor to run into. The monsters can't surround you in a corridor, right?

That Unequip Trap is pretty creepy. It has these tentacles that snake up and remove all your equipment. Of course, there is one nice thing about that trap... It removes any cursed equipment you couldn't otherwise take off. So there are some traps you can use to your advantage.
