The Battle Spirit's (Japanese: 戦鬼) are the seventh bosses in the game. These are the spirits of the men who died in the attack on Princess Kaguya at the Ruined Temple in the past. They were lied to about Shiren (Ancestor), being told that it was Shiren who had informed the Shogun about Kaguya's whereabouts, thus betraying her. Their hatred and regret kept them alive as vengeful Battle Spirits, cursing Shiren's bloodline and lineage, swearing to seek out revenge upon any of his children or relatives.

After their initial defeat, they tell Shiren that his battle has just begun before fading away. It is not until much later in the game that the spirits of these men learn the truth about being lied to.

Strategy

You have a few options with which to dispose of these guys. They all operate similarly to basic monsters with the exception that they contain the Boss attribute, so are immune to your usual status ailment trickery like most other bosses. With that in mind, you are dealing with two spear users that can attack from a range of 2, 2 bow users that fire a bow just like you can, a Dual sword wielder and a single sword wielder. If you want to, you can grind for Lightning Scroll. 3 Lightning Scrolls will depending on the numbers, kill or nearly kill off the lot of these guys without you having to think. If you do not want to do that, then your best option is to make use of any personal buff Herbs. Haste Herb and Hercules Herb can really be a boon here to help you quickly kill off these enemies. They are not that strong individually so just set up Asuka and Shiren next to each other so they can work together to take out the enemies one at a time. As usual, make sure you can heal off the damage you are definitely going to soak up.

If you are doing the one by one method, keep in mind that the White Battle Spirit is capable of fully healing his allies by using magic similar to a staff bolt. So when you are focusing down the Battle Spirits, focus ones that are not within a straight line to the White Battle Spirit, so you don't have to worry about your target being healed.

Trivia

In the data of Shiren 3, the Ruined Temple is listed as "AREDERA" which could mean Stormy Temple or it could even be Tempest Temple.
