Jars are an item type that have been around since the beginning of the Shiren series. They come in 2 base types, insert and push. Push jars work by being pushed and they have an effect like a chiropractic jar which will restore your health or a Walrus jar which will allow you to steal or pick up items from the ground. The other type of jars are insert jars. Most jars allow you to insert an item into them but you usually need to destroy them or to use an extraction scroll to remove the item. Holding jars can be one of the most useful items in the game, allowing you to greatly increase your inventory capacity far past it's normal limits as well as preventing allies from wasting valuable staff charges and protecting your riceballs. Jars found in Shiren 3 tend to have 3 - 6 slots or uses and can be upgraded to a max of 7 using a Jar-Growth Scroll.
