The '''Hero''' {{JA|???||}} is a character in {{ExplorersOfSkyTitle}}. They are controlled by the player outside of dungeons and during story dungeons, and can also optionally be used in the rest of the game.

At the beginning of the game, players are given a {{ExplorersOfSky|Personality Test}}. This will involve random questions from 8 out of 14 categories, with each category leaning towards a particular personality type. Once the player has been asked all eight questions, they will be given a final question that simply asks for their gender. Once this has been answered, the results are all tallied and their final personality and resulting {{ExplorersOfSky|Pokémon}} is determined.

The player will then be given a Pokémon relating to the personality type that they scored highest in. In the event of a tie between multiple personality types, one will be chosen randomly out of those the test-taker scored highest in. Finally, the player's choice of gender dictates which of two Pokémon they will get for that personality.

The Hero begins at {{ExplorersOfSky|level}} 5.

Nineteen Pokémon are available as the hero, with six of them being gender-exclusives; {{ExplorersOfSky|Phanpy}}, {{ExplorersOfSky|Shinx}} and {{ExplorersOfSky|Riolu}} can only be chosen by male players, while {{ExplorersOfSky|Vulpix}}, {{ExplorersOfSky|Eevee}} and {{ExplorersOfSky|Skitty}} can only be chosen by female players. Vulpix, Phanpy, Shinx, and Riolu were added to the rerelease as playable or partner Pokémon whereas Meowth and Munchlax return as partners only.
