Draft:Shiren 5 Vita:Day Shield Type
This article is a draft relating to Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate (Vita) for the PlayStation Vita. |
The Day Shield family of Shields was introduced in Shiren 5. It bears the Diurnal rune, which decreases the damage you take at daytime but increases the damage you take at nighttime. This effect improves as the shield levels up. When the Day Shield reaches its 6th level, the Sunset Shield, it gains the Rustproof rune. The Day Shield family resonates with the Bright Blade Type of swords, giving the ability to read scrolls at night without equipping a torch.
Tips for use
The Daytime Queen is the strongest shield in Shiren 5, because of its 60% damage reduction. It is "balanced" by taking extra damage at night, but daytime is when most of the combat happens and the rule of night is not to get hit in the first place. You can easily switch to a different shield at night like the Midnight Shield or Blazing Shield, or unequip it, or even leave it on if you have a very important rune.
The Day Shield is also the only source of the Diurnal rune to put on other shields. The rune isn't as effective as the innate effect on the Daytime Queen, but if you're using a different shield as your main, it's still great to have.
While this shield is great after it's been leveled up and upgraded a lot, it starts off with low power and rune slots, and the Diurnal effect doesn't do much to make up for it. It's still a "good" shield at this point, but stronger shields will outperform it out of the box.
Don't bother with the resonance. Going at night with this shield and not equipping a torch is a recipe for pain, plus the Bright Blade is not a particularly good weapon even in the daytime.
