Arrows are stackable projectiles and tend to be more common than other projectiles such as talismans. They can never be blessed, cursed, or sealed, and are always fully identified. They typically do regular damage though some types can inflict status ailments on the target creature (if you hit) or have other magic effects. The damage they do appears to be a function of your strength, possibly your level, and the target's defense, though no one has tried to precisely map out the formula. (Note that stones do fixed damage but arrows do normal variable damage, so arrows tend to be the better projectile when you have high strength but stones tend to be the better projectile when facing monsters that negate variable damage such as high-level Mamels and F0-UZ.) There is no concept of bows as an item or item category in any Shiren game; you can shoot any type of projectile at any time. Shooting / throwing any item including arrows always goes 10 spaces in front unless there's something in the way. (Exception: stones only go 3 spaces rather than 10.) Arrows seem to miss as often as melee attacks, which seems to be about 15% of the time, and when they miss, they drop at the feet of the target rather than continuing onward. Arrows and other projectiles always go forward even when you're confused, so they make an excellent fallback option when you can't reliably swing at your opponent. Arrows and other projectiles can also be shot through diagonal gaps and around corners, thus allowing you to get a free hit in some situations. It's often a good idea to harvest arrows when you can, e.g. by throwing rocks on all types of arrow traps, and/or by using a Dodger Pot charge when there are arrow-shooting monsters afoot. Provided you're not in danger of starvation, collecting a huge supply of arrows and other projectiles (e.g. 3 full stacks of 99 or even more) on early floors can make your run much more viable, by allowing you to soften up tough monsters so they can do little or no damage to you when you engage them hand-to-hand, or outright killing the most dangerous monsters at a distance.
