The Scroll of Sleep (Japanese: バクスイの巻物) is a scroll introduced to the Super Famicom release of Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer. Reading a Scroll of Sleep will put all Monsters in the same room as Shiren to sleep for 14 normal turns, monsters that are currently moving at Double Speed will awaken after 7 turns. When the monsters wake up, their Speed will increase by 1 level.

When used in a hallway, only the monsters within a 1 square radius surrounding Shiren will be affected and can even be put to sleep inside walls.

Tips For Use

  • Scrolls of Sleep are not to be used to disable enemies for combat, after 14 turns have passed, the player will be put at a disadvantage being slower than all monsters in the room.
  • If the stairs are in sight, a Scroll of Sleep can be read for the player to quickly escape from the floor or room. It is not recommended to stay longer once the monsters have woken up.
